OVERVIEW & PURPOSE  Four 2 hour adult classes to teach students how to:
  • use their own sewing machine
  • measure a person (or self)
  • choose correct pattern size
  • what fabric and notions are needed for the project
  • choose correct needle for project 
  • sew a pair of pants, or short, or skirt with an elastic waist
EDUCATION STANDARDS
Small class size; maximum of 5 students with 1 instructor 
OBJECTIVES
  1. To understand the different types of needles and their uses
  2. To be able to comfortably pick a sewing pattern in the correct size choose fabric and notions
  3. To become comfortable using a sewing machine
  4. Sew a pair of pants or shorts or skirt with an elastic waist from a commercial pattern
MATERIALS NEEDED (By student)
  1.  Sewing Machine, a bobbin (and manual for that machine) and thread
  2.  Scissors that will cut fabric, measuring tape (not metal), pins, pencil or pen
  3. For second class- sewing pattern for elastic waist pants, shorts or skirt and waistband elastic, fabric with matching thread (wait to purchase these until after first class- instruction will be given during class on how to successfully do this)
